If you are an international graduate who is planning to apply for engineer-in-training status, APEGS will inform you about whether you need to go through an academic assessment after getting your World Education Services (WES) credential assessment.

If you are an international graduate who is applying for geoscientist-in-training status, then an academic assessment is a must.

The WES credential assessment offers APEGS verification of the authenticity of your academic document and a comparison of the level and length of your program relative to the education system of Canada. WES doesn’t evaluate the content of your program. APEGS uses this academic assessment to compare the content of your program to the Canadian requirement for a licence.

APEGS academic assessment fee:

The fee for the academic assessment is $200, and the estimated processing time is 2 to 4 months.

Academic assessment process:

Complete the appropriate self-assessment table and submit it by means of ‘Contact Us.

When you have submitted all the necessary documents, your file status will change to ‘In Progress.

The assessment authority will compare your academic background to the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB) Syllabi or the Geoscience Knowledge and Experience (GKE) Requirements.

You will get a result from APEGS by mail.

After that:

Dependent on the result of your academic assessment, you may need to write technical exams, complete approved courses, or have your work experience evaluated.

When you get the result the options will be told to you.

Self-assessment:

In an APEGS self-assessment, you will take up an analysis of your academic program in comparison to the expected content of the present Canadian programs.

For engineering, it would be CEQB syllabi

For geoscience, it would be the GKE

How to conduct your self-assessment?

Start by reviewing the self-assessment instruction and examples.

Review related self-assessment tables provided on the website, and pick the one matching the discipline of your bachelor’s degree.

Write the name of your classes (as they appear on the WES course listing) beside the appropriate description of the syllabus of Canada.
