If you are registered with APEGS, then it is a professional obligation for you to stay informed and maintain competency within your respective profession.

If you are registered with APEGS, then it is a professional obligation for you to stay informed and maintain competency within your respective profession. APEGS has formalized this obligation by means of its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program.

The purpose of this program is to help you formally demonstrate to the public your knowledge, credibility, and competency in fulfilling the skill requirements of today. Besides that, you are also expected to be prepared for the environments of tomorrow.

APEGS CPD Program requires you to do the following things:

  • Create/update a Continuing Professional Development or CPD Plan
  • Track your CPD
  • Attain your minimum number of credits
  • Achieve credits in the minimum number of categories
  • Attain an hour of verifiable ethics training
  • Report your CPD information online in APEGS Central, the self-serve portal

APEGS CPD Program basics:

The CPD Program was updated in June 2022 to make program requirements much clearer on the basis of the feedback received from members and lessons learned from the past year. We have provided below a table summarizing those changes:

Section

Change

Section 3.3.4 – Presentations

(CPD Activity Category)

Presentation activities have to be verifiable.

Section 3.3.6 – Knowledge Contribution

(CPD Category of activities)

Activities that are outside the given list of eligible activities can only be claimed once approved by APEGS.  See Section 3.3.6 for a complete list of pre-approved eligible activities.

Table 4: CPD Credit Requirements a new member has to fulfill

(Hire an APEGS competency report writing professional to know more about this)

CPD credit needs for a new member have been adjusted.  So, refer to Table 4 in the CPD Program Document for full details.

Table 5 – CPD Credit Requirements for a Waiver Holder

(hire an expert to know about it)

CPD credit requirements for a licence waiver holder who reinstates their license part way through the year or a licensed member who is granted a retroactive remission of fees have been adjusted.  See Table 5 in the CPD Program Document to know full details.

These members need to obtain credits in a minimum of three categories, which may include professional practice.

Academic assessment self-assessment:

If you are an international graduate who is applying for an engineer-in-training credential, APEGS will tell you whether an academic assessment is necessary after getting your World Education Services (WES) credential assessment. If, as an international graduate, you are applying for geoscientist-in-training status, an academic assessment is always necessary.

The evaluation of the WES credential provides the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists with verification of the authenticity of your academic documents and a comparison of the length and level of your program in relation to the Canadian education system. WES doesn’t evaluate your program content. The purpose of the academic assessment conducted by APEGS is to compare the content of your program to the Canadian requirement for licensure.

Process:

Complete the appropriate APEGS self-assessment table. After that, submit through ‘Contact Us.

After the submission of all the necessary documents, your file status will change to ‘In Progress.

The authority will compare your academic background to the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB) Syllabi or the Geoscience Knowledge and Experience (GKE) requirements.

You will get a result for APEGS by mail.
