MIMMM, which is the member grade, is proof of an individual’s professional knowledge, experience, and understanding of a technical discipline related to IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining).

MIMMM, which is the member grade, is proof of an individual’s professional knowledge, experience, and understanding of a technical discipline related to IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals Mining).

An IOM3 Member is generally expected to exercise independent judgment in both practical experience and the application of scientific or environmentalist or engineering principles. They will be innovative in technical matters that are related to materials and natural resources in one or more of the following:

  • Extraction,
  • Exploration,
  • Forming,
  • Processing,
  • Application,
  • Selection,
  • Development,
  • Manufacturing,
  • Research,
  • Reuse,
  • Manufacturing,
  • Recycling and
  • Repurposing

Eligibility criteria:

To attain the title of MIMMM, you have to:

  • Have the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree be it a BSc, BEng, BSc(Eng), BTech, etc, or equal RQF Level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification in a related science, engineering, technology, or environmental subject.
  • Possess a minimum of 4 years of related work experience. It can include the time you spent when completing a Ph.D. or EngD.

If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree or equal but have significant related work experience, you may be considered for the Member grade on the basis of your work-based learning. You should contact the IOM3 authority to know more about this if you want to be considered through this route.

Otherwise, if you don’t fulfill these criteria, you should apply for the Associate grade (AIMMM).

Apply for Interim Professional Registration if looking to be eligible in due course to apply for recognition as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Engineering Council.  

Access to a Mentor to have support when applying for professional registration.

Free entry to its IOM’s Fellowship workshop.

Free entry to IOM3’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop.

Apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) card for which you will be required to pass the related CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test or an approved alternative.

Apply for recognition with Minerals Reporting accreditation under the terms of the CRIRSCO template Codes of Reporting and be added to the register, from which practitioner credential due diligence checks can be done by the public.

Professional registration:

If desiring to apply for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or Chartered Scientist (CSci), you are required to have the IOM3 Member (MIMMM) or Fellow (FIMMM) credential when you apply.

You should hire a professional when applying for professional registration, as applicants find the application process very confusing and complicated. For example, if you want to apply for the CEng registration, you should hire an expert who has a much deeper knowledge of the CEng MIMMM pathway.
