The MIMMM grade, which is called the Member grade, recognizes an individual’s professional experience, knowledge, and understanding in a technical discipline related to IOM3.

The MIMMM grade, which is called the Member grade, recognizes an individual’s professional experience, knowledge, and understanding in a technical discipline related to IOM3.

Usually, members, holding the MIMMM title, are expected to exercise independent judgment in both practical experience and the use of engineering or environmental, or scientific principles. They will be innovative in technical subjects that are related to materials and natural resources in one or more of the following:

  • Processing
  • Exploration
  • Extraction
  • Selection
  • Forming
  • Research
  • Development
  • Application
  • Reuse
  • Manufacturing
  • Recycling
  • Repurposing

Eligibility criteria:

You are required to possess the minimum of a bachelor’s degree which can be a BSc, BEng, BSc(Eng), BTech, and so on. Or, you need to have an equivalent RQF Level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification in a related science, engineering, technology, or environmental subject.

You need to have a minimum of 4 years of related work experience. This work experience can include the time you spent completing a Ph.D. or EngD.

Those without a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent but having a significant amount of related work experience may be considered for the Member grade on the basis of their work-based learning. You should contact IOM# if you want to be considered through this pathway.

Or, those who don’t yet fulfill these criteria may think about applying for the grade of Associate (AIMMM).

Professional registration:

If you want to apply for professional registration as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Chartered Scientist (CSci), or Chartered Engineer (CEng), you are required to have the IOM3 MIMMM or FIMMM grade at the time of your application.

Engineering Council:

The Engineering Council provides the CEng title to those who fulfill the following requirements: 

  • Having a minimum of RQF Level 7/SCQF Level 11 qualification such as a Master’s degree
  • Having a MIMMM grade
  • Holding appropriate work experience of 4 to 5 years
